Stargazing in Norway

By stella, 01-05-2025

We might have kangaroos on the beach in Australia, but how about a reindeer under the Northern Lights?  This stunning photo comes courtesy of the Aurora Borealis Observatory on the island of Senja in Norway.  https://auroraborealisobservatory.com where you can enjoy a whole range of magnificent Northern Lights images or even book a trip there. The photographer is Anders Hanssen andershanssen@mac.com and here he describes the challenges involved in taking this shot.

It’s always been a dream for us to be able to capture Reinulf (our resident reindeer) under the Aurora Borealis. The main challenge is that he moves constantly..  When the aurora started to dance brightly in the sky we started a timelapse sequence and took 300 pictures.  This shot stood out from all the others. The bright aurora behind his head makes the silhouette very defined while the aurora above illuminates his fur and the snow around. Finally the pink and purple colours compliment the shot in a very nice way. We are so proud of this shot.
