Featured Signs- Virgo & Libra

Virgo

The Sun travels through earth sign Virgo from 23rd August until 23rd September. Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac with keywords “I discern” and “I seek order. Virgo’s symbol is the Virgin, the independent woman who answered to no man, but served the Goddess herself. The holy woman of the temple who initiated men into the sacred rites of sexuality.

Born to serve and heal, Virgos are noted for their calm demeanour, attention to detail, healing energies, love of nature and mastery of art and craft. When in balance, they are one of the most practical, kind-hearted and caring signs with an intuitive understanding of the mind-body connection. Usually blessed with fine minds, they are masters of research, data and language. Negatively, the Virgo individual can suffer from hypochondria, be over-critical, especially of self, highly-strung and prone to permanent worry and anxiety. Virgo rules the abdomen, intestines, spleen and central nervous system. When Virgos are out of balance they suffer nervous problems, and stomach and intestinal disorders. The Virgo colours are earthy tones, green and dark brown. Virgo’s greatest lesson is to learn to be perfectly imperfect and accept imperfection in self and others.

Libra

The Sun travels through air sign Libra from 23rd September until 23rd October this year. Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac with keywords “I balance” and “I seek my other half”. Those born under the sign of the Scales promote love and harmony and teach us about give and take. They adore relationships, are often cultured or artistic and are experts in charm, diplomacy and negotiation. Negatively, Librans can be superficial, indecisive, manipulative or dependent and because they hate unpleasantness or disagreement, they often avoid conflict or reality. In medical astrology, Libra rules the kidneys, lumbar region and skin, so when Librans are out of balance they can suffer from lower back pain, kidney problems, urinary tract problems and skin diseases such as eczema. The Libra colours are ivory, pink, turquoise and blue. Libra’s greatest lesson is to learn to develop the ‘inner partner’ and become whole rather than seek an outer partner to feel complete.

October Astro-Energies

With Mars passing over the karmic South Node in Cancer for the first half of October, watch out for men from the past coming back into your life! These may be old loves, family members you haven’t seen for years or even old enemies, for Mars is the god of war. If you find yourself feeling angry or irritable without knowing why, try meditation or journal writing to bring feelings to consciousness.

Venus meets with the Saturn Uranus opposition between the 8th and the 14th forcing us to choose between commitment in relationship and personal freedom. If you feel unsupported or confined, wait until later in the month before making any radical decisions about your relationship.

Mercury enters diplomatic Libra on the 10th followed by Venus on the 15th and a Libra new moon on the 18th. Libra is the sign of relationship, equality and fairness so these will be important themes throughout the second half of October helping smooth over any problems arising in the first part of the month.

Giant Jupiter has been travelling backwards through the zodiac since mid June. From mid October, Jupiter begins to move forward again picking up speed and helping us complete long term projects that have been on hold over the winter months.

Mars enters fiery Leo on October 17th heralding a challenging yet potentially productive and creative period for all Leos and forcing all fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius) out of their comfort zone. Normally Mars spends a couple of months in any zodiac sign, but the mighty warrior will stay in Leo for almost eight months, right through to early June next year.

The Sun squares the Moon’s nodes on the 19th October marking the half way point between two solar eclipses. Events triggered by the most recent solar eclipse (22nd July in Cancer) frequently manifest when this nodal square occurs, so if you experienced loss or sudden breakthrough back in July, this could be a time of healing or greater understanding.

The energy changes as the Sun enters moody and passionate water sign Scorpio on the 23rd followed by communication planet Mercury on the 28th.

Finally Pagans celebrate the festival of Beltane on the 31st. The European Celts lit great bonfires to mark this time of transition from spring to summer. Beltane honours fertility – nesting birds, mating livestock, blossoming trees and buzzing bees. Traditionally anything went during this holiday so use your imagination!

October New Moon-Full Moon

The October full moon falls on the 4th in fiery and impulsive Aries. This weekend is the perfect time for a spring celebration or barbecue. The conversation will flow freely and the atmosphere promises to be electric, with Uranus opposite Mercury and trine to Mars.

The October new moon falls on the 18th in artistic and diplomatic Libra. Libra is the sign of relationship, equality and fairness so these will be important themes throughout the second half of October helping smooth over any problems arising in the first part of the month.
